PHILLIPSBURG RODEO NOMINATED FOR AWARD

For the fourth time, Kansas' Biggest Rodeo in Phillipsburg has been nominated for Medium Sized Rodeo of the Year in the Pro Rodeo Cowboys Association.
 
The rodeo is one of five rodeos nationwide that was nominated in the category of medium sized rodeos.  Rodeos are designated as medium sized, based on their prize money.  This year, Kansas' Biggest Rodeo had an added purse of $63,000 with a total payout of $149,000.
 
The other four rodeos nominated in the same category are Abilene, Texas; Ogden, Utah; Amarillo, Texas; and Deadwood, S.D.
 
Eleven categories are awarded honors in the PRCA, and are voted on by all rodeo contestants, contract personnel, and rodeo committees.  The winners in all categories will be announced Wed., December 2 during the PRCA Awards Banquet at the South Point Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
 
The ballot is peppered with other nominees who have entertained and worked the Phillipsburg rodeo.
 
Rodeo announcer Randy Corley, Silverdale, Wash., is nominated for the award of Announcer of the Year for the twelfth time; he has won it ten of those times.  Beutler and Son Rodeo Co., Elk City, Okla., who has provided livestock for the Phillipsburg rodeo for 5 decades, is up for Stock Contractor of the Year.
 
Contract personnel who have performed at Kansas' Biggest Rodeo also are on the ballot. They include trick rider Melissa Navarre, Weatherford, Okla., Priefert Six-horse Hitch driver Jason Goodman, Mt. Pleasant, Texas; barrelmen and clowns Keith Isley, Reidsville, N.C., Lecile Harris, Colliersville, Tenn., and John Harrison, Soper, Okla., and bullfighter Dusty Tuckness, Meteetse, Wyo.
