But either way, the Salina Area Chamber of Commerce is betting you’ll want to hear her.
Monday afternoon, the chamber announced that former Alaska governor and Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin will be the guest speaker at its annual banquet on Feb. 5.

I'm curious why my post never made it onto this site-is it the references to public officials who give jobs to their college buddies rather than someone who knows how and can do the job? Or maybe it was my refernce to public officials who are so full of themselves that they compare themselves to men we know did something great for our country? Maybe it was my comment about how we are re-writing history to be "politically correct" rather than printing the truth? Or maybe I'll find more of my comments in another journalists story...but whatever the reason, let's see if this one makes it through. I have always considered myself a democrat-but these days I don't care to associate my name with any political party. What I would like to see is someone running for office who cares about our country. Who's honost and humble enough to say "I was wrong" or "I don't know". I find honosty a very attractive quality. If you can find someone who has enough humility to publicly do that, then there's a good chance they will start searching for a different course of action-a way to do things better. It takes character and backbone to stand up in the face of adversity and give honost answers the way Sarah Palin has. She's willing to admit she's human and I love that. I also believe she truly loves our country and would do her best by it-unlike some of our more recent presidents. That's not to say I necessarily agree with all her ideas-but that's what makes America great. I don't have to. What's more important to me is that I believe she loves this country and would do her best by this country...not a select few. Sarah-you've got my vote.

Look at the facts. Tickets to see and hear Sarah Palin sold out in Salina for the largest venue within hours. They could sell out Kemper Arena in KC within hours too. This is why the Libs are crying in their beers: they can't get anyone to buy tickets to hear any of their fiasco candidates, so they attack the most popular and honest person in America. Kudos to Sarah for striking a chord that resonates in this era as we suffer under a Total Disaster Democrat Government.

Yesterday on the NBC nightly news they said most of Sarah palins book was "made up" even the people from the campaign all said she was NOT truthful. McCains staff from the election said she should have checked with them before printing lies and the book was obviously fiction. She is not liked by ANY of McCains staff and she is in no way, shape or form a viable candidate for elected office. If this is your own teams assessment I wonder what else if a total fabrication?

This is funny. During all the time the Chamber of Commerce wasted on Bringing Palin into Salina, Salina lost more jobs. O and wait a second. After reading Tom Bells editorial about more potential jobs lost to Hutchinson and McPherson, what is going on at the Chamber of Commerce. That's funny they have the time to score political points and spend $80,000 bringing Palin in to speak, but the fact is they're putting their own interest above that of the business community of Salina.

I how being a mother of a disabled chid makes you a leader. It definitely makes you a better person for the experiences and challenges of raising a disabled child...one of my oldest friends has a disabled boy in hos 20's...that doesn't mean I would vote him into a political office or that his or her opinion is more valuable than anyone else.......People who disagree and are opposing sides of the aisle need to get back to civil discussions about political issues...hate speech, name calling 3 hour talk shows that are destroying this country from within.....I have seen remarks on this forum that are embarassing outright ridiculous..Nobodys opinion is more valid than anybody elses...It doesn't matter if you have served the country in military service or have been a Kansas farmer for 30 years, or own a business......One person---one vote...I respect the military personel of out country and have spoken with several of my son's friends currently in the armed services....Respect wins everytime---not talking down to people....By the way RESPECT IS SOMETHING THAT YOU EARN----NOT DEMAND

Some of you say she is evil, dumb, etc. Some of you say she's great. I always thought you had to really listen to someone before you really made that decision. Did you know that the Chamber of Commerce members pay dues to belong? The members own businesses that all of you may work for. (I bet some of you don't work) These are the people who may very soon be paying for you to make a living. Maybe. They believe Palin may have a message worth listening to. I don't know that she is seeking the presidency. But her message may be a great one. She's a mother of a disabled child. Mother to a teen who got pregnant. That, at least, makes her human to me. Those who think you're smarter, I hope you are. Would you start a business in Salina so you can pay for my healthcare. I hope you are smart. Start 2 businesses. Then you can also pay dues to an organization and choose who you want to listen to. Make good money too, so Obama can give it to me so I don't have to work so hard for my money. Governors leave all the time. Hmmm, I think Kansas' governor left before her term was up....didn't she? She went to what she thought was bigger and better things and left Kansas in a financial mess. I am curious how anyone can compare Kathleen Sebelious leaving her position as Governor of Kansas to take a cabinet position in the presidential administration and Saran Palin resigning her governership because she didn't want to be a lame duck governor...Clearly not even close to being a similar situation....Sarah Palin simply quit her elected positon for personal gain...How do you think the people who helped her get elected in Alaska feel about her sudden resignation...The money spent on campaigning, winning the position then quitting part way through her term...If she has won a higher office then that would have been different....to simply resign shows a clear lack of character!

Who says that all of the people who don't like her are liberal? I don't vote based on party lines, I vote based on my personal views and how they line up with a particular candidate. As a woman, I found her to be embarrasing every time she opened her mouth. She went out of her way to show everyone how "folksy" she was, but if you have the stuff to back it up, do you really need to try that hard? Truth? Please. Yes, she made changes in Alaska that benefited that state and no matter what she may say, she loved that federal pork as much as anyone. Ran on a "build-the-bridge" platform (for the Bridge to Nowhere)until the scandal broke and Congress pulled back the money--then, and only then, did she say "no thanks", but there was never any money to say "no thanks" for. However while she was mayor of Wasilla, they did receive almost $27million dollars in federal earmarks. While she was Govenor she requested $160.5 million in 2008 and almost 198 million for 2009. But I'm sure she'd do a fine job taking care of our tax dollars. Move to Alaska and you can have them back.

To Darwin, I don’t see how you can say that she has abandoned her state. She stepped down to “chart a new course”. Seems to me we just recently had a similar situation with our former Governor. Palin received mass criticism for being from a state that was out of touch of Americas main stream. Perhaps her new course is directed South to get on board with Americas main stream. This is an amazing country that we live in. I have personally been in more than 20 other countries and not on vacation I might add. I have seen the other options and what we have is easily the best option. I am amazed at the number of people that criticize this country and yet have never left here. I'm curious why my post never made it onto this site-is it the references to public officials who give jobs to their college buddies rather than someone who knows how and can do the job? Or maybe it was my refernce to public officials who are so full of themselves that they compare themselves to men we know did something great for our country? Maybe it was my comment about how we are re-writing history to be "politically correct" rather than printing the truth? Or maybe I'll find more of my comments in another journalists story...but whatever the reason, let's see if this one makes it through. I have always considered myself a democrat-but these days I don't care to associate my name with any political party. What I would like to see is someone running for office who cares about our country. Who's honost and humble enough to say "I was wrong" or "I don't know". I find honosty a very attractive quality. If you can find someone who has enough humility to publicly do that, then there's a good chance they will start searching for a different course of action-a way to do things better. It takes character and backbone to stand up in the face of adversity and give honost answers the way Sarah Palin has. She's willing to admit she's human and I love that. I also believe she truly loves our country and would do her best by it-unlike some of our more recent presidents. That's not to say I necessarily agree with all her ideas-but that's what makes America great. I don't have to. What's more important to me is that I believe she loves this country and would do her best by this country...not a select few. Sarah-you've got my vote.

Did you know that the Chamber of Commerce members pay dues to belong? The members own businesses that all of you may work for. I am curious how anyone can compare Kathleen Sebelious leaving her position as Governor of Kansas to take a cabinet position in the presidential administration and Saran Palin resigning her governership because she didn't want to be a lame duck governor...Clearly not even close to being a similar situation....Sarah Palin simply quit her elected positon for personal gain...How do you think the people who helped her get elected in Alaska feel about her sudden resignation...The money spent on campaigning, winning the position then quitting part way through her term...If she has won a higher office then that would have been different....to simply resign shows a clear lack of character!

Who says that all of the people who don't like her are liberal? I don't vote based on party lines, I vote based on my personal views and how they line up with a particular candidate. As a woman, I found her to be embarrasing every time she opened her mouth. She went out of her way to show everyone how "folksy" she was, but if you have the stuff to back it up, do you really need to try that hard? Truth? Please. Yes, she made changes in Alaska that benefited that state and no matter what she may say, she loved that federal pork as much as anyone. Ran on a "build-the-bridge" platform (for the Bridge to Nowhere)until the scandal broke and Congress pulled back the money--then, and only then, did she say "no thanks", but there was never any money to say "no thanks" for. However while she was mayor of Wasilla, they did receive almost $27million dollars in federal earmarks. While she was Govenor she requested $160.5 million in 2008 and almost 198 million for 2009. But I'm sure she'd do a fine job taking care of our tax dollars. Move to Alaska and you can have them back.

To Darwin, I don’t see how you can say that she has abandoned her state. She stepped down to “chart a new course”. Seems to me we just recently had a similar situation with our former Governor. Palin received mass criticism for being from a state that was out of touch of Americas main stream. Perhaps her new course is directed South to get on board with Americas main stream. This is an amazing country that we live in. I have personally been in more than 20 other countries and not on vacation I might add. I have seen the other options and what we have is easily the best option. I am amazed at the number of people that criticize this country and yet have never left here. No, I cannot imagine any circumstances under which I would want to hear anything that woman has to say - that someone else has written for her. We had to listen to enough of her inane, rambling, disjointed and borderline incoherent musings during the campaign last year. Enough! Has the Chamber board lost its collective mind? There are truly gifted, intelligent, ARTICULATE people who would have been a better choice. (I'm not fond of Newt Gingrich but he'd have been a darned sight more palatable.)

WHAT!!?? Has Sarah Palin ever run a business? I know Todd owns a fishing business but I hardly think that counts toward anything. Here she goes again getting knee deep in stuff she knows nothing about. Why does Salina support her hate-fueled antics by bringing her here. This is a nice town. We don't need her negativity here.
