Ramona plans July 4th celebration

RAMONA -- Redneck in Ramona, the town's Fourth of July celebration, will be Saturday in downtown

Events begin with a Redneck Run, a 2-mile run/walk, beginning at 8 a.m. at Fourth and D streets. A motorcycle poker run will follow from 10 a.m. to noon.

From noon to 4 p.m. will be a Redneck Toy Show in downtown Ramona and 3-on-3 basketball from 2 to 6 p.m. at the City Park. A Redneck Parade will be at 7 p.m. on Main Street. Among the prizes awarded will be best float, vehicle and walking entry.

A Miss Redneck 2009 will be chosen after the parade. Contestants may range from a redneck gal to a guy dressed as a gal, and the winner must agree to participate in the parade and compete in a "talent" contest. The winner, selected by a panel of judges, will receive a $100 prize.

A kids' tractor pull will be at 7:30 p.m., after the parade. The top two winners will be eligible to compete at the Kansas State Fair.

Events conclude with the Redneck Rockets, a fireworks show set to patriotic music, at Freedom's Field at the south end of town.
